On the occasion of African Women's Day, 31 July 2009, the campaign focal points are organising numerous awareness raising and advocacy actions, calling on their authorities to ratify the main international and regional women's rights protection instruments and to respect them in law and in practice.

In Senegal, the Organisation nationale des droits de l'Homme (ONDH) will organise a conference in the Douta Seck Cultural Center in Dakar on the need to bring the Senegalese Family Code into conformity with international conventions ratified by Senegal and the Maputo Protocol, in particular concerning the age of marriage and equality between spouses in the area of family authority.

SWAA/Senegal will obtain slots on community radios to inform the Senegalese population, in particular women, of the importance of African Women's Day.
